TitleWhat does the enable 11h support option do in WLAN service advanced settings
Question
What does the enable 11h support option do in WLAN service advanced settings?
Environment
  • ExtremeWireless
  • 802.11h
  • DFS
  • Radar
Answer
Enabling this option causes the AP to send out 5 beacons to tell clients that it is about to vacate the current channel (802.11h channel switch announcement.)  What is the process an AP must follow to choose a DFS channel and what happens if radar is detected

Depending on this setting the AP will move to another channel with the following rules:
  • 11h disabled -  If radar is detected, ACS will be used to pick the quietest channel from the ACS channel list. The ACS channel list may include all channels, and most likely the quietest channel picked by ACS is also a DFS channel.
  • 11h enabled - If radar is detected ACS will pick a random non-DFS channel.
In the event that 2 WLAN services exist on the same radio, one with 11h disabled and one with 11h enabled, the 11h enabled configuration will be used.
