TitleWhat is the OID for monitoring CRC errors on an Extreme EXOS device?
Question

What is the OID for monitoring CRC errors on an Extreme EXOS device?

Environment
  • EXOS

  • Netsight

  • Object Identifier (OID)

  • Management Information Base (MIB)

Answer
  • (extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors -1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.3) is used for monitoring CRC errors.

  • extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors MIB is under rmon hence “enable rmon” needs to be executed in the switch before fetching the information.

Lab output:

Waverley.5 # sh snmp get 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.3.1
extremeRtStats.1.1.3.1 = 0

Waverley.5 # sh snmp get 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.3.2
extremeRtStats.1.1.3.2 = 0

The above output show no errors on port# 1, 2.

  • They both (odd and even index) represent the CRC values. They are nothing but values for two different sampling periods i.e. the odd index represents the values for the shorter sampling period (default value of 30 seconds) and the even index represents the values for the longer sampling period (default value of 1800 seconds).

-bash-4.0$ snmpwalk -v2c -c private 10.127.6.36 extremeRtStatsCRCAlignError
EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors.1 = Counter32: 26  ---> Represents the number of CRCAlign error packets received over the last 30 seconds for the first interface with ifIndex 1001
EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors.2 = Counter32: 151 ---> Represents the number of CRCAlign error packets received over the last 1800 seconds for the first interface with ifIndex 1001
EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors.3 = Counter32: 0 ---> Represents the number of CRCAlign error packets received over the last 30 seconds for the first interface with ifIndex 1002
EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsCRCAlignErrors.4 = Counter32: 0 ---> Represents the number of CRCAlign error packets received over the last 1800 seconds for the first interface with ifIndex 1002

  • The “Rtstats” stands for Real Time Stats.
