TitleWhat is the recommendation to upgrade older NOS version to the latest target path releases?
Question
Release Notes of each release has a section for Upgrade/Downgrade Consideration, these documents detail how the upgrade path can be achieved from version to version, this should be referenced when planning for FWDL.

What is the recommendation from TAC and Engineering to accomplish that without causing disruption and unnecessary risk. What is the more expeditious method if certain risk and downtime is acceptable?
Environment
Answer
Here is the upgrade path (2 options) for upgrading from Brocade Network OS 4.x to 7.x:

1. Non-disruptive
4.1.3a to 5.0.2c FWDL with "coldboot"
5.0.2c to 6.0.2f FWDL with "coldboot"
6.0.2f to 7.0.1cFWDL with "coldboot"

2. Disruptive
4.1.3a -> 5.0.2c FWDL with "coldboot"
5.0.2c->7.1.0a FWDLwith default-configuration

Note: Running config should be uploaded to FTP server for archive and restore purposeswhen needed, prior to the FWDL operation. For larger fabric, upgrade odd numbered RBs and then upgrade even numbered RBs, with the principal switch to be upgrade last.
