TitleWhat is the traffic Distribution Algorithm for SecureStack 802.3ad LACP protocol
Question
What is the traffic Distribution Algorithm for SecureStack
Environment
  • All Securestack models
  • All Securestack Firmware
Answer
When each packet traverses a LAG port (ex: lag.0.1), the actual underlying port selection is made based upon one of the following criteria:
  • Multicast traffic: Destination MAC
  • IPv4 traffic: exclusive-OR of Destination IP with Source IP*
  • all other types: exclusive-OR of Destination MAC with Source MAC*
Additional notes
  • The algorithm is not configurable
    • In all cases, only the Least Significant (right-most) three result bits are considered.
  • These, read as a binary number, render a decimal value within the range 0-7, which is used to select the physical port instance.
  • An exclusive-OR operation renders a 1 result if the two considered bits are 0 and 1 (any order), and a 0 result if the two considered bits are both 0 or both 1.
  • For example; 001 XOR 100 = 101 (decimal 5) and 001 XOR 111 = 110 (decimal 6).
