TitleWhen a firmware is pushed to the AP is it then possible to reboot the AP by rebooting a switch?
Question
When a firmware is pushed to the AP, is it then possible to reboot the AP by resetting a switch?
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG v5.X Software
Answer
As soon as the AP is not getting power from the switch, it will turn off until it gets the power back. Then the AP will be rebooted with the partition declared on the show boot command, here is an example, in it can be seen what happens after an upgrade on AP:

#show boot
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMAGE            BUILD DATE             INSTALL DATE          VERSION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Primary       02/23/2017 17:51:35     03/16/2017 10:05:41     5.8.6.0-011R
  Secondary     12/01/2016 14:04:41     01/09/2017 15:29:06     5.8.5.0-016R
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Boot       : Secondary
Next Boot          : Primary
Software Fallback  : Enabled
The new installed firmware is in the primary partition, so the next time the AP comes up, after the switch reboots and give power back to the GE1 port on the AP, will try to boot from it.
