TitleWhere are stored firmware packages on controller?
Question
Using device upgrade, where are firmware packages located?
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG 5 Software
Answer
There are two separate folder having device upgrade firmware

When a NOC deployment is used, upgrading via centralized controller, the FW package is going to be uploaded to cache of site controller / RFDM
device-upgrade <hostname>
show device-upgrade status
User-added image
dir flash:/upgrade/
dir flash:/cache/upgrade/
show device-upgrade versions
User-added image

When a local upload is used, firmware package goes to upgrade folder directly
device-upgrade load-image <AP type> ftp://user:password@<IP>/<AP version>.img
dir flash:/upgrade/
dir flash:/cache/upgrade/
show device-upgrade versions
User-added imageUser-added image
Additional notes
This might bring some memory issues when a controller is deployed with firmware of multiple platforms included in its own image.

Cache is not automatically cleared and it is highly recommended to check content of flash/cache/upgrade whenever you have a low memory events seen on a site controller.
