TitleWhy do I see security prompt when redirected to WiNG Captive Portal?
Question
When using captive portal redirection some clients report security issues with server certificate.

Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG 5.5+ Software
Answer
As captive portal uses redirection and controllers use by default self-signed digital certificate, some wireless clients may report security issues while connecting to Captive portal.

To mitigate this prompt you may either use connection type HTTP

Or import publicly trusted digital certificate to be used as trustpoint / server certificate

Additional notes
In case of externally hosted CP pages the recommendation is to use HTTPS connection type and use trusted certificate on both, final landing server and CP trustpoint, as there might be a problem with MIM on newer browser versions.
