TitleWhy does my Client Report show N/A for various options including Radio, Protocol, RSS and stats?
Question

Why does my Client Report show N/A for various options including Radio, Protocol, RSS and stats?
Why does the Client Report show N/A for some users?
Why do I not see statistics for my device?

Environment
  • ExtremeWireless
  • All Versions
  • All AP models
  • Client Report
  • Client Statistics
  • Device
  • Mobility User - MU
Answer
  1. A new device (client, user, MU, mobility user) that is unknown to the ExtremeWireless Controller will show N/A as it's initial IP address.
  2. If the device sends an ARP request, the src address is taken as the device's IP address and recorded at the Controller.
    • If the client IP is showing N/A that means the device never did an ARP.  It may be using a cached ARP entry or never completed the DHCP process.
    • The controller keeps a record of this device until the Idle Timeout or Session Timeout expires, even if the device is not still associated to an Access  Point.
  3. For other device information and stats, this information is sampled every 30 seconds, so the device has to remain associated for more than 30 seconds before this data is populated or updated. When a device enters a deep sleep cycle, they only connect for a few seconds at a time, so the reports will likely not update any counters for them. Likewise, if a device connects and then drops for some reason, no new stats are reported to the Controller from the AP.
Additional notes
Also be aware of previous issues reported for Client Reports showing "N/A"  and recommendations to upgrade firmware - Client reports show packet/data counters 0 and other fields including radio/protocol/rssi as n/a
