Question
Why is recommended to use FTP instead of using TFTP when getting a techsupport file?
Environment
  • All Summit WM3000 Series Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Controllers
  • WirelessWiNG Controllers
  • ExtremeWiNG Access Points
  • WirelessWiNG Acess Points
  • WiNG v5.X Software
Answer
TFTP relies on UDP protocol, which by design, do not need to ACK every sent packet, so, if during the TFTP transfer, some packet is missed the file will get corrupted and unable to properly be unzipped.
On the other hand, FTP relies on TCP, which ensures the correct transfer of the whole package and, in case of packet loss, it will be requested again to be retransmitted.
