TitleWill the VX9000 serial number be modified if the hardware is replaced, but the same IP address used?
Question
Will the VX9000 serial number be modified if the hardware is replaced, but the same IP address used?
Environment
  • VX9000
  • WiNG 5.x
Answer
Since the serial number on the VX9000 is generated based on the MAC/IP combination, any deviation in either or both will directly affect and modify said serial number and consequently void the licenses.

The MAC address is that of the lowest configured VLAN.ID
  • Log into the controller via SSH using PuTTy.exe or similar emulation client and run the following command to determine what MAC is being used:
>show interface

Example:

vx9000-1C4706>show interface
Interface vlan1 is UP
  Hardware-type: vlan, Mode: Layer 3, Address: 5C-0E-8B-1C-47-06
  Index: 4, Metric: 1, MTU: 1500
  IP-Address: 192.168.5.165/24(DHCP)
input packets 83701, bytes 23642296, dropped 0, multicast packets 0
    input errors 0, length 0, overrun 0, CRC 0, frame 0, fifo 0, missed 0
    output packets 48768, bytes 15976020, dropped 0
    output errors 0, aborted 0, carrier 0, fifo 0, heartbeat 0, window 0
    collisions 0
  IPv6 mode is disabled
