Could not find release.plist in TAR file before RPMs
Firmware download failed - Unable to access the package list file. Check whether the file name is specified properly. (0x12)

Environment
Software Release: NOS All

Cause
This problem happens because the application looks for the release.plist file to use to install the code.
It will attempt to change into the 'file' directory and search for this file.
If the application cannot open this directory and find the release.plist file, it will generate this error.

This happens usually when a user has specified a compressed file instead of the relevant uncompressed directory.
Resolution
Simply use the uncompressed directory and do not supply a filename, this will allow the application to succeed in finding the file.

Example:

For a compressed file called nos3.0.1b.tar.gz that is found in /nos, after uncompressing it to folder /nos/nos3.0.1b the correct format would be below:

# firmware download ftp user [username] password [password] host [ip_address] directory /nos/nos3.0.1b

The "file" keyword is optional.
