Both Peer ERS and VSP Switches are in VRRP Master State

« Go Back

Information

TitleBoth Peer ERS and VSP Switches are in VRRP Master State
Symptoms
  • Both switches are showing as VRRP master.
  • For VLAN 99 (for example), both switches are acting as VRRP master.
  • Two VRRP masters are noted for VLAN 99 (for example).
Environment
  • ERS 8300
  • VSP 9000
  • All SW versions
Cause
  • The issue is caused by the mis-configuration of both peer switches.
  • VLAN 99 is not configured to pass via the IST link. This causes the VRRP hello packet not to be exchanged via the IST link, hence both peer switches are acting as the VRRP master.
Resolution

Add VLAN 99 to IST.

For example, on the VSP 9000, type "vlan members <vid> <IST ports> portmember".
