Symptoms

Loading COM gives the error "System initialization is in progress. Please try to login at a later time."  

 

Environment
  • Configuration and Orchestration Manager
  • Any supported software version
Cause

Possible causes for this error:

  1. The system has been rebuilt from a back-up which causes System Manager (SMGR) certificates to be generated against a different hostname than the actual hostname of the SMGR.
  2. The Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) change process interrupted by a reboot of the server. The FQDN change process takes approximately 45 minutes. If the server is rebooted before the process completes, the process will be interrupted unexpectedly and it will not be possible to log in the web interface
  3. Installation not performed according to the system requirements as mentioned in the release notes.
  4. Unexpected shutdown of the server.
  5. Combination of COM and WMS (Wlan Management System 8100) on the same physical server or VM.
  6. COM 3.1.3.1 OVA deployment, eth0 interface is getting de-activated after reboot.
  7. System Manager is running for nearly 2 years without any upgrade or renewing the certificates.
Resolution

Solutions for the above mentioned causes:

  1. The system will need to be re-built with the same hostname as on the backup.
  2. Change the FQDN and the Host Name of the Server in /etc/hosts file on the SMGR back to the original values. Go to System Properties and click on "Change settings" next to FQDN and click on "change" again give the proper FQDN. Wait for at least 45 minutes and log in again
  3. Check the release notes of the respective COM version and verify if proper system resources are allotted and OS is supported.
  4. Reinstall or rollback to working snapshot of VM.
  5. Remove the WMS application. It is recommended not to install any other tools/application on the same server where COM is installed
  6. Activate the eth0 by navigating to System>> Administration >> Network >> Highlight the eth0 adapter and Activate it. Wait of approx. 2 minutes before attempting to log in again.
  7. Visit Extreme Portal and download the CertificateRenewalUtility to renew the certificates
