TitleError When Attempting To Telnet "Sorry, session limit reached"
Symptoms
  • Unable to telnet to the switch
  • Switch returns error Sorry, session limit reached
Environment
  • Ethernet Routing Switch 8600/8800
  • All supported releases
Cause
  • Extreme Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) only allows 8 total Telnet sessions
Resolution
Follow the steps below

Step 1. Clear all active Telnet sessions (if resolved stop, otherwise proceed to Step 2)

  1. Type show cli who
  2. Type clear telnet <session id>
ACLI
  1. Type show users
  2. Type clear telnet <session id>
Step 2. View all active TCP connections (if resolved stop, otherwise proceed to Step 3)
CLI
  1. Type show ip tcp info-connections
ACLI
  1. Type show ip tcp connections
Step 3. Kill all active Telnet sessions (PRIV mode) (if resolved stop, otherwise proceed to Step 4)
CLI
  1. Type priv
  2. Enter password (provide the following information listed below to Extreme GTAC for password generatiion)
    • Software Release(w.x.y.z)     
    • Chassis Serial Number     
    • Current System Date(mm/dd/yyyy)    
  3. Type sh-execute cliKillAllTelnet
ACLI
  1. Type enable
  2. Type dbg enable
  3. Type sh-execute cliKillAllTelnet
Step 4. CPU Switchover
CLI
  1. Type config sys set action cpuswitchover
ACLI
  1. Type enable
  2. Type config term
  3. Type sys action cpu-switch-over
