Symptoms
  • Switch running 7.3.0.223 release
  • 7.5.0.2 FW and 7.5.1 SW downloaded to switch using no-reset option
  • Switch is rebooted from SSH session to complete upgrade
  • Console monitoring of show cpu-utilization indicates sustained 100% CPU utilization for 10 minutes before switch reboots
  • Config is lost when switch comes back online with 7.5.1 release
  • No config loss if switch is booted from console to complete upgrade
  • If switch is rebooted while on 7.5.1 release, partial config loss is also seen regardless of USB drive enabled/disabled
Environment
  • ERS 4900/5900 releases prior to 7.6.2
  • ERS 4800 releases prior to 5.12.3
Cause
  • Software defect ERS495900-5201 (ERS 4900/5900)
  • Software defect ERS454800-3040 (ERS 4800)
Resolution
  • For ERS 4900/5900 upgrade to 7.6.2 release
  • For ERS 4800 upgrade to 5.12.3 release
Additional notes
Workaround
  • Reboot from either telnet or console
