  • Initiating a switch of Internet Service Provider (ISPs) on an VSP8404.
  • Issue establishing a BGP session with new ISP
  • Debug for both VSP and Peer logs displayed error

Environment
  • VSP 8000
  • Software 7.0
Cause
  • BGP supports communication between peers of the same type only
  • If a new 4–byte AS has to communicate with an old 2-byte AS, assign a 2-byte AS number to the new AS
  • BGP currently supports communication between the following peer types only:
    • 2-byte peer to 2-byte peer
    • 4-byte peer to 4-byte peer 
Resolution
  • Ensure that the ISP and VSP are using the same byte type
