TitleSwitch Stopped Allowing Telnet or EDM Connections
Symptoms
  • Problems accessing ERS 4850GTS switches
  • Telnet client will shut down following username and password
  • Wireshark trace confirms switch sends back Your account was locked out due to inactivity. Please contact your system administrator after failed telnet login
  • Login attempts through EDM fail with 401 Not Authorized
  • Able to login from console connection
Environment
  • ERS 4800
  • Release 5.12.0 and 5.12.1
Cause
  • Username inactive-period disabled the account
  • show logging confirms username disabled

Resolution
  1. Login to switch using another available username/account (or console) with RW access
  2. Type show username <USER_NAME> to confirm enabled/disabled
4850GTS-PWR+(config)#show username test

Lockout timeout: 1 min
Lockout retries: 0

  1. Enable username that is currently disabled
    • Type enable
    • Type config term
    • Type username <USER_NAME> enable
