TitleLog reports Vendor:INVALID when using 0.5m and 3m DAC cables
Symptoms
The following error can be seen in the logs when 0.5m DAC cable is inserted or after a reset:
 
GlobalRouter COP-SW ERROR Port: x/y Check sum Error in QSFP+/QSFP28. Calculated: 0x2d Present: 0x61
GlobalRouter HAL INFO GBIC inserted in slot x Port y Type:40GbCR4 Vendor:INVALID

 
Environment
VOSS running all supported software

 
Cause
GBIC product part numbers:
AA1404037-E6 (QSFP+ TO QSFP+ DAC CABLE 0.5M)
AA1404031-E6 (QSFP+ TO QSFP+ DAC CABLE 3M)
  • Errors are purely cosmetic in nature. 
  • Errors are caused by improper programming by the cable manufacturer of the cable EEPROM area which the switch attempts to read for information purposes only.
  • Error is only seen with a small subset of version-1 cables and its root cause has been addressed.
Resolution
The version-1 cables currently showing this error are functioning properly. The error does not impact cable functionality or traffic through the cable therefore, it can be ignored.
Additional notes
"port: x/y" and "slot x port y" shown in the error message above can be any port impacted be this error.
