Symptoms
  • ERS 5900 stack of 2 switches with two uplinks forming SMLT to pair of VSP 8600 switches
  • SMLT connections from ERS terminate on channelized 40G ports of VSP 8600
  • When ERS stack is rebooted, the stack cannot ping VRRP ip interface on VSP 8600 cluster within same vlan, but can ping the real ip addresses making up VRRP group
  • PC off the VSP 8600 cluster cannot ping the stack ip address
  • Same PC off VSP 8600 cluster can ping a PC connected to port on stack in same vlan as stack ip
Environment
  • VSP 8600 release 6.2.1.0
  • ERS 5900 release 7.6.2
  • AA1404041-E6 breakout cable used
Cause
Software defect ERS495900-5423
Resolution
Fix available in ERS 4900/5900 7.6.3 release currently forecast for mid-August (subject to change)
Additional notes
Workaround
  • Shutdown one of the sub-ports on each VSP 8600 that make up the SMLT
  • Once connectivity restored, can re-enable the SMLT sub-ports on both VSP 8600 switches
