Information

TitleVOSS : The Maximum number of VRFs supported without scaling on this platform in addition to the default VRF has been reached
Symptoms
Switch reports VRF creation error on Console or SSH session when attempted to create 25th VRF.

Error: The Maximum number of VRFs supported without scaling on this platform in addition to the default VRF has been reached.

Environment
  • VOSS
Cause
By default, switch supports 24 VRF due to VRF scaling is disabled and SPBM mode is enabled.
show boot config flags
     "flags vrf-scaling false"

Resolution
  1. VRF Scaling  increases the maximum number of VRFs and Layer 3 VSNs that the switch supports. This flag is disabled by default.
  2. To support more than 24 VRF's  enable the flag using boot flag command "boot config flags vrf-scaling true".
  3. Enabling the vrf-scale flag requires switch reboot.
Additional notes
  • If you enable both vrf-scale flag and the spbmconfigmode flag, the switch reduces the number of configurable VLANs.
  • By default, VLAN IDs 1 to 4059 are configurable and the system reserves VLAN IDs 4060 to 4094 for internal use.
  • On switches that support the vrf-scaling and spbm-config-mode boot configuration flags, if you enable these flags, the system also reserves VLAN IDs 3500 to 3998.
