TitleXMC The Archive Config Change Flag Is Always Positive for VOSS (VSP) and BOSS (ERS) Devices Due To Embedded Timestamps
Symptoms
  • The Config Change flag is always set after performing a set of archives.
  • Inventory Manager will indicate that "Configurations are Different" for each archive created.
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • Software Releases Prior to 8.3.0.111
  • ERS (BOSS)
  • VSP (VOSS)
  • Archives
  • Config Compare
Cause
Timestamp values embedded in comment lines within a configuration file that is archived triggered the config change indicator.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in software release 8.3.0.111 (and above).
Additional notes
Prior to 8.3.0.111, an archive of a VSP (VOSS) or ERS (BOSS) switch would *always* flag a change because timestamps were embedded in comments lines within the configuration output. The differences were also visible when viewing configurations side-by-side.

In 8.3.0.111, an archive of either switch type will no longer flag this as a difference for the purposes of the "Config Change" flag; however those differences will still be seen in either VOSS or BOSS configuration output if actually viewing the two configurations side-by-side. Those timestamps will always be different.
