Information

TitleOSPF Adjacencies Transitioning from FULL to DOWN with no apparent cause when using DVMRP
Symptoms
  • momentary OSPF adjacency loss
  • No associated physical layer issue or errors
  • dropping host packets
Environment
  • S-Series
  • Firmware 8.62.02.0022 - 8.63.06
  • OSPF
  • DVMRP
Cause
When router is processing high rates of DVMRP frames, any frames processed by IP stack could be dropped.

This includes:

- OSPF frames. Potentially leading to enough OSPF Hello packets being dropped to cause OSPF Neighbor Drops.
- All management protocols supported by IP stack (SSH, telnet, SNMP, etc).
Resolution
Upgrade to Firmware Version 8.63.07
