Symptoms
  • Enforce of the appliance fails with an error message indicating one or both TimeoutException messages below:
Enforce failed. NAC appliance configuration failed with 2 error(s):  
1) TimeoutException while notifying ExceptionListener: NetBIOSRequestManager, canceling request
2) TimeoutException while notifying ExceptionListener: EndSystemAuthCountManager, canceling request
  • nacstatus output from the engine shows that all configured DNS servers are unreachable no IP addresses can be resolved:
Resolving NetSight Server Name: myxmc.server.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
Resolving NAC Server Name: mynac01.server.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
Resolving NAC Server Name: mynac02.server.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
!!! NAC Hostname DNS Resolution: FAILED. Unable to retrieve IP address of NAC Appliance via DNS.

Cause
Configured DNS servers are unreachable.
Resolution
Extreme Control requires operational and reachable DNS servers in order to function. Confirm DNS servers are reachable and not blocked by firewall or routing policies.
