IP multicast packets are getting dropped in Fabric Connect network depending on TTL value

Information

TitleIP multicast packets are getting dropped in Fabric Connect network depending on TTL value
Symptoms
IP multicast packets with a TTL of 1 are sending to the Fabric Cloud from the source switch they are getting lost instead of to be forwarded to another switch.
Environment
  • ERS 8800 (SW v7.2.0.0 or later)
  • VSP 9000 (SW v3.4.0.0 or later)
  • VSP 8600
  • All VOSS software releases starting from v3.1.0.0
Cause
This is expected behavior. IP multicast is treated as routed traffic hence TTL is decremented irrespective of whether it is transported over L2VSN or L3VSN. The minimum recommended TTL value is 4 for IP multicast to work on MCoSPB. TTL will be decremented twice once at ingress BEB and once at egress BEB on BRCM based ASICs. Ingress multicast BEB will not modify the TTL on any product or release.
Resolution
Change TTL value on the IP multicast server manually.
