Symptoms
  • Daily Usage Data Collection callbacks from Extreme Management Center fail.
  • Repetitive failures of callbacks to Extreme may result in premature subscription license expiration.
  • Subscription licensing was working but has suddenly and persistently stopped working.
  • The console.log indicates the following exception:
3740	1573071388521	Software Update.3.Event	XMCServer	XMC	---	Software Update Check	An error occurred while trying to contact the Extreme Networks server for updates.  Check to see if the proxy settings under the  options window are correct.

Environment
  • Extreme Management Center (XMC, formerly NetSight)
  • Extreme Wireless Controller (EWC)
  • Subscription Licensing (27001)
  • IdentiFi
Cause
Communication between Extreme Management Center and the services.enterasys.com:443 is failing since services.enterasys.com is not resolved by DNS.
Resolution
Confirm that DNS is properly configured on Extreme Management Center and that service.enterasys.com resolves to its public IP address:
C:\>nslookup
Default Server: <your_DNS_server_FQDN>
Address: <your_DNS_server_IP>

> services.enterasys.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    services.enterasys.com
Address:  134.141.4.61

If located behind a HTTP / HTTPS proxy server, ensure that the HTTP Proxy settings under Administration -> Options -> ExtremeNetworks.com Updates" are set appropriately.
