Symptoms
  • Connectivity to VSP switches at site 1 down from network management perspective
  • VSP switches at site 1 showed log messages indicating network loop from SMLT to EXOS stack
  • Both VSP switches at site 1 showed OSPF messages in log from unknown/bogus neighbor router-id's
  • Both VSP switches at site 1 can ping each other across the vIST
  • VSP switches at site 1 cannot ping VSP switches at site 2
Environment
  • VSP 7400
  • Release 8.1.0.0
  • X460G2-48x-10G4 (Stack)
  • ExtremeXOS version 30.4.1.2
Cause
Directly connected X460-G2 stack found in frozen state (non-responsive to cli commands on it)
Resolution
EXOS stack was administratively rebooted to recover connectivity to VSP switches at site 1 and connectivity between sites 1 and 2
Additional notes
Unknown/bogus OSPF neighbor router-id messages and network loop messages in VSP logs at site 1 stopped once EXOS stack was rebooted
