  • 802.1x authentication failing with logon failure (0xc000006d) with known good username/password
  • Output of "wbinfo -t" results in the following:
    root@domain.com:/etc/samba$ wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret for domain WORKGROUP via RPC calls failed
    wbcCheckTrustCredentials(WORKGROUP): error code was NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN (0xc00000df)

    Could not check secret
Environment
  • Extreme Access Control
  • LDAP authentication environment
  • NAC
  • AD
  • Active Directory
  • Samba
Cause
winbindd process started with wrong smb.conf file
Resolution
  1. Remove the /var/run/samba/winbindd.pid file
  2. Issue the command:
    /etc/init.d/winbindd restart
  3. Issue the command
    wbinfo -t
The issue has been resolved if the command results in the following
"checking the trust secret for domain <Your_Domain> via RPC calls succeeded"

Additional notes
It may be necessary to delete all winbindd process.

Do a 'ps -A |grep winbindd'

You should see several process. Use a 'kill -9 PID#' to delete them one at a time.
Check 'ps -A|grep winbindd' again to make sure it did not start itself again and then go to step 2 above.
