Information

TitleACL Smart refresh is not working when a existing rule in policy file is modified
Symptoms
  • ACL Smart refresh is not happening even though modified rules are less than 200 on refreshing the policy.
  • When a policy is modified and refreshed, the smart refresh is expected to happen as we are making a single change in a policy file. But in the logs, we only see hard refresh happening.
Scenario -1: X450 running 15.3.5.2-patch1-10
  • Changed an existing rule in a policy – hard refresh is done

07/25/2017 06:47:50.91 <Noti:ACL.Policy.hardRefresh> Policy:hard refresh:test. --> Not expected
07/25/2017 06:47:50.91 <Info:pm.config.refreshClientP> Refreshed policy test successfully sent to client acl
07/25/2017 06:47:50.91 <Info:pm.config.loaded> Loaded Policy: test number of entries 2

  • Added a new rule to the policy – hard refresh is done

07/25/2017 06:49:00.78 <Noti:ACL.Policy.hardRefresh> Policy:hard refresh:test.  --> Expected
07/25/2017 06:49:00.78 <Info:pm.config.refreshClientP> Refreshed policy test successfully sent to client acl
07/25/2017 06:49:00.78 <Info:pm.config.loaded> Loaded Policy: test number of entries 3

  • As per the user guide, in scenario - 1 (i), smart refresh is expected to happen as we are making a single change in a policy of two rules. But in the logs, we only see hard refresh happening.
          Note: The above behavior was tested with “refresh blackhole” in both disabled and enabled state. Both yielded the same results. Also, the Smart refresh is working till EXOS 15.1.X release and not working after that.
