Symptoms
  • AP crash or reboot after enabling 802.11k
  • "Kernel panic - not syncing: out of cookies. Need reboot" Seen in ap-report.txt.x file from the AP trace log bundle. 
Environment
  • ExtremeWireless
  • AP3825
  • AP3805
  • Firmware 9.21.06 and newer
  • Firmware 10.01.02
  • Firmware 10.11.01 through 10.11.04
  • IEEE 802.11k
Cause
Issue is related to the radio going into a background scanning state.
  • 11K enabled can exacerbate the issue
  • Can also happen when the radio is set to Auto to scan out for a new channel. 
Resolution

Workaround:
  • Disable 802.11k  
  • Disable Probe Suppression
  • Disable Band Steering (Load Group Radio Preference)
