Symptoms

  • Seen in logs as:
    03/28/18 07:45:19   Minor  SA Manager     AP Authentication failed. Server Certificate Error
Environment
  • Extreme Wireless
  • AP won't join new controller
  • All software versions
Cause
This is due to Secure Tunnel being enabled on the APs and the APs still are trying to use the old encryption keys for the management tunnel
Resolution
Disable Secure Tunnel on all APs on original controller prior to replacing (if possible), but more importantly on new controller with the following steps:
     1. Click AP Tab on top bar > AP section on left > Click Local AP option
     2. Select all Local APs checkbox > Click Actions dropdown > Click Multi Edit
     3. Set dropdown option for Secure Tunnel to Disabled > Click Apply button
