Symptoms
  • Following a migration of NetSight from a Windows platform to Linux and subsequent upgrades, all syslog messages received in NetSight are shown as severity "Info"
Environment
  • Extreme Management Center
  • NetSight version 7.1.2.12
  • Ubuntu Linux
  • Syslog server
Cause
  • There is an incorrect pattern match for Ubuntu Linux in the "Custom Pattern Configuration" used for parsing
Resolution
Check / edit the "Custom Pattern Configuration"  under the name "Ubuntu Linux Syslog Pattern" as follows
  • From NetSight Console go to
  • Tools > Alarm/Event > Event View Manager... > Available Log Manager, select Syslog and Edit...
  • From "Log Manager Parameters - Syslog, select the pattern "Ubuntu LINUX Pattern" and Config...
  • The required pattern should be as displayed below:-
  • <%pri%>%month%\w%day%\w%time%\w%src%\w%info%

Additional notes
NetSight version 7.0.8.34 fixed a similar issue documented as follows:-
"..All syslog messages were displaying with a severity of Info, regardless
of the severity with which they were configured.
1144968.."
