« Go Back

Information

TitleAndroid captive portal detector doesn't pop on connection to EAC controlled SSID
Symptoms
Android device doesn't display captive portal detector on connection to SSID
Environment
Extreme Control Captive portal
Cause
Android device able to get a response to it's gstatic.com/generate_204 captive portal detection probe
Resolution
  1. In NAC Manager click the tools menu --> Management and Configuration --> Advanced Configuration --> Portal Configurations --> Default --> Network Settings --> "Allowed Web Sites"
  2. In the "Allowed domains" tab add !gstatic.com
  3. Enforce the appliance
Additional notes
This solution will drop the request to gstatic.com/generate_204 if it reaches the NAC. The redirection mechanism in place in the network will determine how this web request is handled

If you are using Extreme Identifi Wireless controller in a "B@HWC" topology with "External" mode set to the WLAN service the controller has an additional option to handle captive portal detection messages using the "Autologin" configurations.

In the EWC GUI:  VNS --> Global --> Client Autologin options can redirect/drop or hide (controller will response success to captive portal detector), but ONLY in the above environment.
