  • STP
Cause
  • when auto-bind feature is is enabled on a particular vlan in STP domain, then you cannot manually add a port to STP domain. Otherwise CLI will log the below error.
* X440-48t-10G.19 # enable stpd RSTP auto-bind vlan test2
* X440-48t-10G.20 # configure stpd RSTP add vlan test2 ports 36 dot1d
Error: Cannot add VLAN test2 port 36 to STP domain RSTP

Resolution
  • Please note, auto-bind feature will only take effect on new ports added into a Vlan after STP is configured.  So basically with auto-bind feature enabled, any port you add or remove from a Vlan, will be added or removed from STP domain.
  • For example:
  1. If I enable auto-bind on vlan test2 and then add ports int Vlan test2, you will see the ports will be added into STP domain "RSTP"
* X440-48t-10G.6 # enable stpd RSTP auto-bind vlan Test2
* X440-48t-10G.7 # configure vlan test2 add ports 30 - 36 untagged
* X440-48t-10G.12 # show stpd RSTP
Stpd: RSTP Stp: ENABLED Number of Ports: 11
Rapid Root Failover: Disabled
Operational Mode: 802.1W Default Binding Mode: 802.1D
802.1Q Tag: (none)

Participating Vlans: test2
Auto-bind Vlans: Default,test2

      2. If auto bind is disabled on a Vlan Test2 then, you can manually add/remove a port in STP domain.
* X440-48t-10G.21 # disable stpd "rstp" auto-bind vlan test2
* X440-48t-10G.22 # configure vlan test2 add ports 37 untagged
* X440-48t-10G.23 # configure stpd RSTP add vlan test2 ports 37 dot1d
* X440-48t-10G.24 # show stpd RSTP
Stpd: RSTP Stp: ENABLED Number of Ports: 7
