TitleCannot create new backup via tftp within Netsight
Symptoms
  • Backups are not copied from the external devices to Netsight.
  • TFTP PUT to the NetSight TFTP server, displays the following message:
Error: tftp: server error: (2) unable open file
Environment
  • Netsight v6.x
  • Windows
  • Linux
Cause
The NStftpd service does not allow the creation of new files by default in the tftpd root directory.
Resolution
  1. Add the -c argument in nstftpd.cfg. The file in located as follows:
Windows
x:\program files\Extreme Networks\Netsight\services\nstftpd.cfg

Linux
/usr/local/NetSight_Install_Path/NetSight/services/nstftpd.cfg

In Linux, make sure the -c is added before the -d
  1. Restart the nstftpd server:
Windows
Open the NetSight Service Manager, select TFTP, then Start

Linux:
type: service nstftpd restart
Additional notes
If the backup file already exists within the tftpd root directory, the backup succeeds.   If the backup file does not exist, it will not be created by default.
