TitleChanging the setting of dot1q tag include/exclude when VPLS is enabled affects the service vlan FDB learning on the PE devices
Symptoms
Topology:
User-added image

In the above topology, We have VPLS service between PE1, P and PE2 devices.
Changing the setting of dot1q include/exclude with VPLS enabled on the P device 198.51.100.32, affects the VPLS fdb learning on the devices PE1 and PE2.

FDB entries in working state:
PE2.3 # sh fdb
Mac Vlan Age Flags Port / Virtual Port List
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

00:00:00:00:01:04 v1(0600) 0000 dhm test:198.51.100.11
00:00:00:00:01:06 v1(0600) 0000 dhm 23
00:00:00:00:01:07 v1(0600) 0000 dhm 23
00:00:00:00:01:08 v1(0600) 0000 dhm 23

PE1.2 # sh fdb

After changing the dot1q setting with VPLS enabled:
P.10 # configure vpls test dot1q tag exclude

Outputs in the problematic state:

PE1.7 # sh fdb

Environment
  • EXOS all
  • Summit All
  • Only affected if we change the dot1q setting of VPLS.
Cause
This behaviour with FDB learning is not expected and this is identified as a bug.
CR xos0067323 is created to address this issue.

Resolution
Work-around:
Disable and enable VPLS on the switch in which this configuration change is done.
It is recommended to make any configuration change for VPLS with VPLS disabled.

Permanent Fix:
Upgrade to the software version with the fix for CR xos0067323. Please refer to the release notes for the availability of the fix.
Contact GTAC for any further queries regarding CR.
