Information

TitleCisco POE Devices not exiting Low Power Mode to draw Full Power from SecureStacks
Symptoms
By default a Cisco AP determines power requirements via CiscoDP rather than 802.3af negotiation.
Environment
  • Securestack
  • All Firmware Revisions
  • Cisco 1242AG Access Points
  • Cisco 3702i
Cause
  • Client device is not getting enough PoE to power up
  • Per 'show port inlinepower' query, power provision dropped from 8 watts before upgrade to 4 watts after upgrade
Resolution
Functions as Designed
Possible Workarounds:
  • Option 1: Globally disable CiscoDP on the Securestack, then reboot the AP:
set ciscodp status disable
  • Option 2: Port disable CiscoDP on the Securestack, then reboot the AP:
set ciscodp port status disable
  • Option 3: Add a policy which leaves outgoing CiscoDP (e.g. vvid advertisement) unchanged but drops incoming CiscoDP, then reboot the AP
set policy profile 86 name drop-incoming-CiscoDP
set policy rule 86 macdest 01-00-0c-cc-cc-cc mask 48 drop
set policy port 86
  • Option 4: Globally disable CDP (Cabletron Discovery Protocol), CiscoDP, and LLDP on the port(s):
set cdp state disable
set ciscodp status disable
set lldp port status disable <PORT_STRING>
