Information

TitleClients are presented with the Portal Splash page upon roaming to another Access Point in an Extreme Cloud Wireless network
Symptoms
  • As Guests move between Access Points in the Wireless domain, their devices are presented with the Portal Page
  • When users roam between Access Points, their session is dropped and not re-established
  • General roaming issues
Environment
  • ExtremeCloud
  • Firmware 4.01, 4.11
Cause
  1. Client session lifetime would not adhere to pre-auth idle, post-auth idle, or session timeouts. As a result, this could cause client sessions to be cleaned up prematurely.
  2. SIAPP (224.0.1.178) multicasts are getting pruned by the directly attached switch (IGMP Snooping), the result is the access points not able to share their client session tables with each other

Resolution
Fix 1:
  • Client session timer already pushed to the latest cloud version (ExtremeCloud 4.11.01-26 )
Fix 2:
  • Once the 224.0.1.178 multicasts were allowed, that corrected the problem
