Information

TitleCommunication loss between the end hosts connected via VPLS connection after adding a new port to the sharing group
Symptoms
After adding a new port to the existing sharing between the VPLS peers, the communication between the end hosts connected to the peers are lost.

Topology:
Client 1------- (18) PE1 switch (1~4) ----- (1~4)PE2 switch(10) ------- client2

In the setup above, after adding the port 5 to the existing sharing group 1-4 between PE1 and PE2, the communication between Client 1 and Client 2 is affected.

Environment
Exos 15.6.3.1
Summit X670
MPLS - VPLS configuration
Cause
Adding a new port to the LAG through configure command dynamically causes Broadcast and unknown unicast packets to drop between the VPLS peers.
Since ARP packets are dropped, the communication between the clients were affected.
This is identified as a bug and the CR xos0063228 is created to address this issue.
Resolution
Software fix is available in the version 15.6.4.2 patch 1-2 and above.
