Information

TitleConnected BGP neighbors are not coming up
Symptoms
Newly created BGP neighbor is not coming up and see the below log messages in errdumpall

[RTM-1032], SW/0 | Active | DCE, ERROR, SW0, System IPV4 Route Limits exceeded. Current Profile Routes Limit 4096. Configured Routes 4096. , rib_vrf.c
Environment
  • VDX6740
  • NOS 7.2.0a
Cause
The Routing table is full and as a result the newly created VE interface doesn't get installed in the hardware and as a result BGP neighbor doesn't come up.
Resolution
The default hardware table is 4096. To increase the table size we need to change the hardware-profile to use ipv4-max-route which will increase the route table for ipv4 to 8192. (use it only if you don't have IPv6 routes)
VDX1# conf t
VDX1(config)# rb 1
VDX1(config-rbridge-id-1)# hardware-profile route-table ipv4-max-route
Note: A reload is required for this configuration to take effect.

Second option is change the hardware-profile to use "ipv4-min-v6" option which will increase the route table for ipv4 to 6K and reduse route table for ipv6 to 500 routes

VDX1# conf t
VDX1(config)# rb 1
VDX1(config-rbridge-id-1)# hardware-profile route-table ipv4-min-v6
Note: A reload is required for this configuration to take effect
Note 2: The numbers may vary depends on platform and NOS version
Additional notes
Use the "show ip route system-summary" command to check whether the routing table is full.
