Convergence time longer than expected in an PIM-MSDP network

« Go Back

Information

TitleConvergence time longer than expected in an PIM-MSDP network
Symptoms
The multicast traffic convergence is longer than expected when an L3 link is restarted in a PIM / MSDP network.

Environment
Summit and Blackdiamond series
Exos All.
Cause
When MSDP is activated, PIM waits for MSDP RPF recalculation. If the originator-id is not configured in the PIM enabled routers, then this re-calculation could take a longer duration hence the convergence time is more for the multicast traffic.
Resolution
Configure the MSDP originator-id using the command:

configure msdp originator-id <Ip address>
