TitleDespite free space available in LP rconsole dir, FLASH FSTAT FAILURE and RECEIVER FSTAT ERROR are displayed for one single LP module when copying code from the MP to LP modules.
Symptoms

Despite free space available in LP rconsole dir, FLASH FSTAT FAILURE and RECEIVER FSTAT ERROR were displayed for one single LP module when copying monitor, boot, or flash code from the MP to all LP modules.

This was first observed on an MLX4 with two LP modules being downgraded from 5.5.00c to 5.5.00b. First monitor and boot codes were downloaded over TFTP.

When LP monitor code was downloaded, there was failure for one LP andsuccess for the other.

NetIron MLX-4 Router#copy tftp lp 192.168.109.1 /XMR-MLX05500b/Monitor/InterfaceModule/xmlb05500.bin mon all
.................................TFTP: Download to LP mon done.
Save a copy to MP's flash, please wait.....................................Done
Copy file /XMR-MLX05500b/Monitor/InterfaceModule/xmlb05500.bin from tftp on MP to file monitor on all LP slots
...Download to Slot 1 failed (FLASH FSTAT FAILURE)
File Download: /XMR-MLX05500b/Monitor/InterfaceModule/xmlb05500.bin from tftp (MP) -> monitor (LP 1) failed (RECEIVER FSTAT ERROR).
.File Download: /XMR-MLX05500b/Monitor/InterfaceModule/xmlb05500.bin from tftp (MP) -> monitor (LP 2) is done.
File download to interface module is done (1 successful)

When LP boot code was attempted, again there was success for one and failure for the other.

NetIron MLX-4 Router#copy tftp lp 192.168.109.1 /XMR-MLX05500b/Boot/InterfaceModule/xmlprm05500.bin boot all
.................................TFTP: Download to LP boot done.
Save a copy to MP's flash, please wait....................................Done
Copy file /XMR-MLX05500b/Boot/InterfaceModule/xmlprm05500.bin from tftp on MP to file boot on all LP slots
...Download to Slot 1 failed (FLASH FSTAT FAILURE)
File Download: /XMR-MLX05500b/Boot/InterfaceModule/xmlprm05500.bin from tftp (MP) -> boot (LP 1) failed (RECEIVER FSTAT ERROR).
.................File Download: /XMR-MLX05500b/Boot/InterfaceModule/xmlprm05500.bin from tftp (MP) -> boot (LP 2) is done.
File download to interface module is done (1 successful)

When the IronWare image was downloaded with delete-first, the same message appeared for the one LP module.

NetIron MLX-4 Router#copy tftp image 192.168.109.1 /XMR-MLX05500b/Combined/Application/xm05500b.bin delete-first

Copy file LP Application on MP to file primary on all LP slots
............................Download to Slot 1 failed (FLASH FSTAT FAILURE)
File Download: LP Application (MP) -> primary (LP 1) failed (RECEIVER FSTAT ERROR).
................File Download: LP Application (MP) -> primary (LP 2) is done.
File download to interface module is done (1 successful)

"dir" on the LP module appeared to show sufficient available space.

LP-1#dir
File Name Size Chksum
PBIF 112 4979
XGMAC 112 4deb
XPP 112 6f30
boot 524288 5467

4 File(s) 524624 bytes
Available 14155776 bytes

LP-1#

Its almost as if the flash memory has been marked read-only.

Environment
Software Release: Originally observed when downgrading from 5.5.00c to 5.5.00b, but since the root cause is unknown, this issue could happen with any version.
Fixed in Version: N/A
Cause
Unknown, though this apparently can happen in modules with no hardware faults. Once recovered the module is as good as any other module in production.
Resolution
1) Rconsole to the module in question.

2) If the module is in a state where it has no flash code and new flash code cannot be copied over, it should show a Monitor prompt: "LP-1 Monitor>"

3) From the monitor prompt, execute erase flash

4) Press Ctrl-X. This should take you back to the MP CLI.

5) From the MP CLI execute power-off lp and power-on lp against the module in question.

6) While the LP module boots up, it should copy all necessary files from the MP. If you see "FPGA header file is missing" during LP boot, use TFTP to download the FPGA bundle again: copy tftp lp x.x.x.x filename fpga-all all then execute power-off lp and power-on lp against the slot again.
