Information

TitleFCS errors caused connectivity issues between the switches
Symptoms

Reachability issues or packet loss on the line.
Under interface statistics we can find FCS errors:

VSP - interface 1/4:

VSP#show interfaces gigabitEthernet error 1/4

Environment
  • Virtual Services Platform running any supported software version (VSP)
  • Ethernet Routing Switch running any supported software version (ERS)

Cause

The issue with the FCS is usually related to Layer 1 (Physical problem with the link or port).

When the FCS counter increasing, check the following to identify the root cause:

1) Toggle the port.
2) If GBIC is used - replace the GBIC.
3) Check medium connected to port/GBIC (Cooper cable, fiber etc.).

Resolution

Changing the faulty part that caused the issue of FCS error.
