TitleERS 8600/8800: F2E ASICs Egress Queue Stuck Causing Traffic Loss and Connectivity Issue
Symptoms

The egress queue on the SMLT links might get congested resulting in traffic loss and below errors are noticed in the logs during the issue:
 

COP-SW INFO Slot X: F2E LCD phase 2 reset, lane 0.  Queue 4 stalled (code 7)
COP-SW INFO Slot X: F2E LCD phase 2 reset, lane 0.  Queue 0 stalled (code 7)
SW INFO Slot X: msgControl: messages starting with 'F2E ' suppressed
Environment
  • Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 
  • Ethernet Routing Switch 8800
  • Running any supported software version.
Cause

The issue is due to a hardware defect. 

 

Resolution

Replace the affected the I/O module.

 

Additional notes
Workaround:
Reseat/Soft reset the affected I/O which will initialize the buffer and clear the error state.


Additional parameters to be taken care for better functioning of the switch:
  1. Disable tx-flow-control on the remote end device to stop these flow control packets. (Note: This would stop the errors in the logs but wouldn't resolve the issue)
  2. Check for duplicate IP usage by capturing packets using wireshark.


Recommendations:
  1. Check for wire condition first i.e., bad GBIC/dirty fiber and replace the GBIC/fiber if faulty
  2. Increase bandwidth by adding more ports to the links that are exhibiting the egress dropped pages/high in flow control counter
  3. Distribute the ports evenly among all the three lanes
