Error message: getting broadcast address: Cannot assign requested address

« Go Back

Information

TitleError message: getting broadcast address: Cannot assign requested address
Symptoms
The following error message is observed on the console output after a switch boots up.

Error 2: ./../lib/isc/unix/ifiter_ioctl.c:635: V766-_F4263:257: getting broadcast address: Cannot assign requested address
Environment
  • EXOS All
Cause
The error message simply means that the NTP was unable to get the broadcast address of the VLAN that it was monitoring. The broadcast addresses of the NTP enabled interfaces are polled from the kernel.
As soon as the VLAN becomes inactive, the kernel interface will be teared down and will be created once again when it becomes active. This is informational and doesn’t affect any operation in the switch.

Resolution
CR xos0068356 is created to suppress this message on the console.

CR xos0068356 - Informational messages are being printed to console when an NTP enabled VLAN becomes inactive.
EXOS 22.3.1 (Verify Fix)
EXOS 21.1.4 (Verify Fix)
EXOS 16.2.3-GA-Jun17 (Released)
