Information

TitleGiven key is not a valid encrypted key. Please provide a valid encrypted key that is encrypted by the switch.
Symptoms
While pasting the authentication related commands from 16.x version to a device running 22.x, the following error is noticed.
configure ospf vlan <vlan name> authentication encrypted md5 <key ID> <encrypted password>
Given key is not a valid encrypted key. Please provide a valid encrypted key that is encrypted by the switch.

Environment
Summit All G2 platforms
Exos 22.x and above

Cause
If we use the command with the encrypted keyword and if the key following the "encrypted" keyword is generated from 16.x or 21.x version, the error will be thrown in 22.x version and above. This is because the encryption mechanism is different in 22.x version.

However, if the switch is upgraded from 16.x or 21.x to 22.x and above, the key is generated with the new method and the error will not be seen. This is an expected behavior.
Resolution
Workaround to use the command:

Use the command in 21.x version and then upgrade the switch to 22.x version and above
