Information

TitleGuest Manager Test SMTP Configuration Using GMail Errors "Could not convert socket to TLS"
Symptoms
  • Test SMTP Configuration fails.
  • Email delivery via GMail fails.
(STARTTLS 587) Could not send Test Email because Could not convert socket to TLS
(SSL/TLS 465) Could not send Test Email because Could not connect to SMTP host: smtp.gmail.com, port: 465.
Environment
  • Identity Engines Guest & IoT Manager (formerly Guest Manager)
  • Software Releases 9.4.0, 9.3.2.
  • GMail
Cause
Guest & IoT Manager (formerly Guest Manager) can not complete a SSL/TLS or STARTTLS exchange with Google GMail if ECDH (Elliptic Curve Diffie Hellman) ciphers are negotiated. This is due to a software defect in the underlying Linux libssl3.so libraries.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in Guest & IoT Manager 9.5.0, part of the Identity Engines 9.5.0 suite. An upgrade of Ignition Server to 9.5.0 or above is also required.
