Information

TitleIncompatibility between 100FX Gbics 10063 and Summit
Symptoms
Incompatibility between 100FX Gbics 10063 and Summit.
The transceiver is not linking properly.
This is seen on modules labeled "San Jose"
Environment
  • 100FX Gbics p/n:10063
  • Summit
Cause
The vendor of these 100FX transceivers (p/n10063) has changed the specifications of the internal addressing.
This particular transceiver has an internal PHY which needs configuration. On the newer device they added a microprocessor in the device which allowed them to simplify the configuration, but they moved the address into the DDMI page address space.

So when you add such a transceiver in the current EXOS code it is trying to access the registers at the old address and we get in the log i2c error messages since that address does not exist on this newer transceiver.
