Symptoms
  • Hostname shows "SLX" instead of configured hostname in syslog server logs in default-vrf

  • Hostname is correct using mgmt-vrf
    14:44:26.661098 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 315, offset 0, flags [DF], proto UDP (17), length 481)
        9.9.9.9.49263 > 1.1.1.1.syslog: [udp sum ok] SYSLOG, length: 453
            Facility local7 (23), Severity info (6)
            Msg: Jan 10 13:44:27 switch1 raslogd:
  • Hostname configured correctly on SLX device
    switch1# show running-config switch-attributes 
    switch-attributes chassis-name switch1
    switch-attributes host-name switch1
  • Reload of system loses hostname on Syslog server
Environment
  • SLX Series
  • Syslog
  • default-vrf
  • hostname
Cause
The Syslog variable is not updated properly upon the SLX reboot. This issue only happens after reboot and before DCMD config replay completes. 
It is fixed in SLXOS 18r2.0.0 under DEFECT000660148. 
Resolution
 
  • Workaround
    • reconfigure switch hostname after reload of device
  • Fix
    • Upgrade to SLXOS 18r.2.0.0 or later.
