LACP sharing ports connected to one MLAG peer flaps during the reboot of the other MLAG peer

« Go Back

Information

TitleLACP sharing ports connected to one MLAG peer flaps during the reboot of the other MLAG peer
Symptoms
  • MLAG with LACP configured.
  • One of the MLAG peer rebooted.
  • LACP ports connected to the other MLAG peer are removed and added to the aggregator with the following messages.
<Info:LACP.RemPortFromAggr> : Remove port <port number> from aggregator
<Warn:LACP.ModLAGId> : LAG ID Modified for LACP port <port number>. PDU MAC <MAC address>

Environment
  • All MLAG supported switches.
  • EXOS 15.4.2 and above versions.
Cause
In a setup of MLAG with LACP enabled, if there happens to be a change in LAG ID after peer reboot, then ports in LAG has to be removed and re-added. This is expected behavior, since LAG members has to align with new LAG ID.
Resolution
Best practice would be to configure static LACP MAC such that there won’t be any LAG ID change during an MLAG peer reboot.

configure mlag peer <peer_name> lacp-mac <mac_address>

This command should be configured in both MLAG peers, specifying the same MAC address.
