Large delay between host and user authentication using NAC

« Go Back

Information

TitleLarge delay between host and user authentication using NAC
Symptoms
  • 802.1x authentication is being used with "User and Computer" set on the Microsoft Windows supplicant
  • Large delay between host and user authentication seen on NAC
  • Logging in has a log delay and the user sees a Windows "busy" icon for the duration
Environment
  • Extreme Control
  • NetSight NAC
  • Windows 7
  • 802.1x Authentication with "User and Computer" set on supplicant
Cause
Host authentication authorization policy is denying protocols that windows is using to load printers/storage and other resources. Windows looks to not attempt 802.1x user authentication until after resources are loaded, so timeouts during this process increase delay in logging in.
Resolution
Open the policy that the host authenticated computer is using and take a trace to determine which resources need to be allowed on in the host authenticated state in order to load resources immediately after the user logs in. Open then resources in the Host Authenticated policy.
